Interzum 2025 will focus on bio-based solutions for interiors

The circular economy and biobased solutions as sustainable sources for furniture production and interior design will be the focus of Interzum 2025. This central theme will guide the international trade fair in promoting sustainable stewardship of raw materials.

From May 20 to 23, 2025, various aspects of this theme will be presented at the Koelnmesse exhibition grounds, allowing participants to experience showcases and engage with innovative products and concepts.

Expanding on the 2023 theme of ‘Neo-Ecology’, the 2025 edition will highlight two key approaches: the circular economy, which extends the use of materials through reuse, repair, refurbishment, and recycling; and bio-based solutions, which use regrowing sources as environmentally friendly alternatives to petroleum-based products. Both aim to minimise ecological footprints and promote sustainability.

The event programme will feature speakers on the Interzum Trend Stage and discussions in the three Interzum forums, addressing the central theme with ideas, studies, and market-ready solutions. Exhibitors will showcase products and pioneering ideas in bio-based materials and the circular economy.

Additionally, Boulevard North will transform into the Rethinking Resources Boulevard, presenting sustainable furniture production solutions.

Three segments

The exhibition will be divided into three segments. In the function and components segment, the industry will present technologies meeting rising customer requirements in energy efficiency, comfort, and convenience.

This includes fittings, lighting systems, and semi-finished products for furniture and built-in parts. This segment will demonstrate how technological advancements can enhance the functionality and sustainability of interior design.

The materials and nature segment will showcase sustainable materials, focusing on environmentally sound raw materials. This area will feature woods, veneers, parquet flooring, decorative surfaces, decor papers, wood-based materials, laminates, edging products, and surface treatments.

These materials emphasise the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility in furniture production.

The textile and machinery segment will cover upholstery and mattress production, cover fabrics, leather and adhesives. It will highlight how the latest technologies and materials contribute to the development of sustainable and high-quality furniture products.

This structure fosters idea exchanges along the sector’s value chains and provides clear orientation for exhibitors and trade visitors. Early registration levels indicate Interzum’s importance as a global sector gathering and source of fresh industry impetus.
