Hettich, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of furniture fittings, has earned certification from BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) for its Onsys hinges and KA ball-bearing drawer runners. BIS certification is the pinnacle of trust and authenticity, further validating the exceptional quality of these products.
Currently, the Onsys hinges and KA ball-bearing drawer runners have been BIS certified, with other products to follow soon.
Achieving BIS certification entailed a thorough audit of Hettich’s manufacturing processes in its Indore and Vadodara factories, and successful sample testing to underscore the superlative quality of its products.
Commenting on this new development, Andre Eckholt, Managing Director of Hettich India said, “It is a matter of great pride to have received BIS certification for two of our highest-selling products. With this certification, we continue to set industry benchmarks, demonstrating our unwavering dedication to quality and compliance.”
Consumer trust
On the impact that the BIS certification could have on Hettich’s business in India, Andre says, “BIS certification serves as an endorsement of the high standards we maintain, assuring customers of the superior quality and safety of our products.”
“We believe that because of this measure, the Indian market will see an influx of higher quality and safer products, which will eventually drive consumer trust and increase demand across the sector,” Andre says.
This will not only give impetus to the flow of investment in the furniture and woodworking sector but will also motivate the industry to upskill its workforce in its quest for efficiency and cost competitiveness.
The BIS certification process begins with the Union government issuing a draft, followed by a voluntary scheme, and eventually, the release of a quality control order (QCO) with a six-month timeline for large-scale industries.
Indigenous production
“Recognising the importance of BIS certification for companies like ours, we proactively applied for the license 17954:2023 for telescopic ball bearing slides while it was still under the voluntary scheme,” Andre says.
Hettich manufactures its indigenous products at the state-of-the-art plants located in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Vadodara (Gujarat), utilising the latest fully automated machinery from Germany.
This advanced technology ensures flawless production of furniture fittings, right from raw materials to finished goods, while stringent quality checks guarantee consistency. It is a testament to Hettich’s commitment to ‘Make in India, make for the World’ philosophy.
Hettich’s product portfolio in India comprises a repertoire of furniture fittings and door hardware made with cutting-edge German quality, complemented by wire products, aluminum profiles, shelving systems, built-in appliances and furniture lights.
