Exports of US hardwood lumber and veneer to India reached US$6.32 million in the first three quarters of 2024, according to the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC). This marks a steady increase in demand, particularly for American oak species, including red oak.
US hardwood lumber exports to India totalled US$5.41 million, with white oak, red oak, hickory and walnut leading the charge. Notably, US exports to India have seen consistent growth despite challenges in global furniture markets, with a decline in imports of ash and maple.
India’s increasing demand for wood products, particularly for furniture and construction, is fuelling this rise, according to said Roderick Wiles, AHEC’s Regional Director.
The country’s annual imports of wood products have surged, with the US securing a record market share. As India’s domestic furniture market grows, demand for American hardwoods, especially oak, is expected to continue to rise in the coming years.
