Schmalz shows benefits of automated handling

To fully harness the advantages of automation, manufacturers need adaptable and efficient material handling tools. The layer gripper ZLW from Schmalz is designed to optimise palletising, de-palletising, and various intra-logistics processes with high precision and minimal effort.

Its modular, lightweight design makes it ideal for collaborative robots (cobots) and smaller robotic systems, ensuring seamless integration into automated workflows.

The ZLW is not limited to palletising: it can be used across multiple production and packaging applications. In the food and beverage industry, it efficiently handles packaged goods like cartons, jars, cans, and plastic-wrapped products while maintaining hygiene and preventing damage.

The gripper ensures precision when handling medicine boxes, vials and sterile packaged goods. It supports pick-and-place operations, transferring items between production lines and final packaging. In automotive and furniture manufacturing, it facilitates line changeovers and the transfer of components between workstations, as well as moving finished products into storage or packaging.

The gripper features a lightweight aluminium construction that reduces the load on robots, optimising efficiency. It is available in different sizes to accommodate a variety of work pieces, capable of securely handling both small and medium-sized items.

Customisable sealing options provide a firm grip on both smooth and irregular surfaces. The plug-in suction cups are ideal for uniform surfaces, while sealing foam offers a secure grip on delicate or uneven materials.

For varying layer heights, an optional floating flange automatically adjusts to ensure consistent gripping force. The vacuum system can be tailored with either an external vacuum connection for high-power applications or an integrated vacuum generator for a compact, self-contained setup.

Additionally, an optional rounded safety frame enhances protection when used in collaborative environments.

Gripper ZLW uses advanced vacuum technology to precisely secure and transport workpieces and can be mounted onto a robot or gantry system. The modular design allows for customization based on specific handling tasks, such as selecting different sealing elements, vacuum sources, or safety features.

The gripper is also designed with safety in mind, making it suitable for use in

human-robot collaboration environments without compromising workplace safety. For more information, contact: marketing@schmalz.co.in.
